Belonging to the living world

The skill of nature kinship  ·  name: ______________  ·  date: ________

The living world continues within and around busy school days, even when our attention is elsewhere. Noticing one living thing can remind us that human life depends on wider relationships with air, water, soil, plants and other species. Connection does not require access to a dramatic landscape; it can begin with what is already nearby.

What we are practising

By the end of this lesson, you can observe one living thing closely and describe a way its life is connected with their own.

During the activity

Meet one living thing: notes, noticings, or nothing at all. This sheet is yours.

Take it with you

Choose one living thing, a bird, a plant, or a tree, and describe at least one way its life is connected to human life.
